Gruber : ... I basically spoke inappropriately and I regret having made those comments. However it is worth noting that he did not deny the comments were truthful. So to recap the series of events surrounding the ACA, it goes something like this : New sweeping legislation was intentionally written in a confusing fashion in a coordinated effort to obscure the worst parts from both Congress and citizens. Then the president knowingly lied about aspects of the law. Then a misinformed Democratic controlled Congress passed the law without a single vote from the minority party. Then the supreme court ratified the law by declaring what is essentially a tax since it is administered by the IRS not a tax. Then the president on numerous occasions violated the Constitution by unilaterally changing the law without Congressional approval. Finally, there is King vs Burwell in which the plaintiffs are (ironically) arguing that subsidies should be administered according to the language of the law. Gruber himself has stated on a number of occasions that is was the intent of the law to limit subsidies to state run exchanges. All this brought to you by the most transparent administration in history !
