Guest reviewer, Maria, has been out and about again in her native north east and has, for your enjoyment, tried another new eatery in the city of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.... After an exhausting morning of retail therapy in vibrant Newcastle upon Tyne a rejuvenating drink was called for. However the numerous franchise coffee shops and department store café held no appeal so we made our way to a little hidden gem “Tea on the Green” in Old Eldon Square or as it’s locally known “the hippy green”. It is situated in the basement of a beautiful Georgian building a small and cosy venue that allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for a short while. The proprietor was very friendly and efficient in taking our order and serving our drinks. The tea was served in a china pot with delicate china cup and saucer, just the way I like it. We each ordered a sandwich but my companion wanted hers ham sandwich without cheese and with salad, this was no problem to them. Our order was quickly, attractively presented and of generous portions. There was an excellent choice of home made desserts and cakes on offer which were unable to tackle on this occasion but worth another visit to sample. If you are in Newcastle needing refreshments them remember to give the local independent traders your support. Just had this review posted by The icing on our cake,a great national food/tea shop blog, Check it out!
