“Guidelines for Growth in the Spirit” By Pastor Phillip Abraham John’s Gospel introduces the Holy Spirit’s role in spiritual growth. The New Birth and the baptism with the Holy Spirit endow the believer with the life and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including to pray in Spirit power. The Holy Spirit is our Teacher, Helper, Advocate, and Guide. He is our source of true spiritual understanding. He lifts up Jesus and builds up believers, enabling them to live the Christian life. In John chapter 3:3 we understand that perceiving the kingdom of God and entering it are impossible without spiritual rebirth. It tells us in John 14:25-26 that the Holy Spirit enables God’s people to understand and live by the truth. And finally in John 16:8-11;12-15 it tells us to Ask the Holy Spirit to bring conviction to men’s hearts. Understand that is one of His primary ministries. In the book of Romans chapter 8 it explains that through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, the very life of Jesus Christ is brought into effect into our mortal bodies. As we yield ourselves to Him, Jesus becomes in and through us the very fulfillment of the Law and Word of God. As we look at Romans chapter 8:1-11 we recognize that the Law is fulfilled by the Holy Spirit in us. Know that His presence in you is the very life of Jesus Christ. So in versus 13-17 is tells us to choose to live by the Spirit. We do this by putting to death fleshly attitudes and actions. We need to come to a place where we can acknowledge our adoption as a child of God calling Him Father. In the book of 1 Corinthians we learn how to employ the spiritual gifts, because they are the means God has given us to nurture growth. Growth occurs in the congregation through edification and beyond it through evangelism. Chapter 12:4-11 explains that God works through spiritual gifts to reproduce the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ in His church. Following 1 Corinthians the book of 2 Corinthians tells us that we need to be determined to grow spiritually. This kind of growth is painful because we undergo stretching, molding, and refining by the Holy Spirit. Those that are truly determined to grow spiritually deal ruthlessly with any carnal thoughts. According to chapter 3:2,3 in 2 Corinthians we are to be shaped by the Holy Spirit so that people can come to know Jesus through what they see. Continuing in 2Corinthians in chapter 3:17,18 it tells us to spend time in God’s presence. Expect that the Holy Spirit will transform you into the image of His glorious Son. And in chapter 10:3-5 It tells to Recognize that we are in a spiritual war with our mind. So we need to take captive every thought that is hostile to God. So let us memorize scripture and meditate on it as a military discipline. The Holy Spirit is the key to living under God’s grace. Only the indwelling Holy Spirit can fulfill the Law through us as the life of Christ and truly free us from the Law. In Galatians chapter 3:14 it tell us that we need to understand that we receive “the promise of the Spirit” the same you receive salvation through Christ. In fifth chapter starting at verse 16 through verse 26 it tells us to live under the Holy Spirit’s control. Obey every leading of the Holy Spirit. Know that this will defeat any fleshly or carnal inclination you may have. Believe that this will result in Jesus’ life being reproduced in you. I hope that this teaching will encourage and show us that we have the Holy Spirit as believes and he will guide us into all truth. I truly hope that this teaching gives us more insight on just how much help we do have. We are the ones that make it hard, the Holy Spirit is there to keep us on track, and when we do get off track, He is there to show us to get back on track again. I consider it a blessing because we have such a great helper are problem is we won’t go to are helper when He is available. I hope this teaching is encouragement that help is available and when we turn to our helper he will lead us into all the truth. God bless everyone!
