Guild Member Lesley Fawcett’s interest in dyeing and batik - TopicsExpress

Guild Member Lesley Fawcett’s interest in dyeing and batik started when travelling in Nigeria where she saw indigo-dyed textiles with patterns created using a “resist” of cassava root paste. On return to England she became interested in Javanese batik, visiting Yogyakarta in 1996 for an intensive course. A member of the Batik Guild, she now works on silk, creating original batiks using the traditional process of applying hot wax and dip dyeing the fabric. The ever-changing forms and colours of trees in the landscape are the inspiration for many of her designs. The beautiful shapes and elegant patterns lend themselves to the art of batik. See these in person at our Courthouse Gallery Shop, along with the other beautiful creations our Guild Members make! Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
