Guildford venue The Boileroom has launched a petition to help save it from closure following complaints from local residents- an escalating issue for small music venues across the UK, as highlighted by the Music Venues Trust campaign. According to the venue owners, two individuals are seeking a review of the license with the “Direct intention and request that the council revoke our licence with immediate effect”. A statement on the venue’s website said: ”As I’m sure everyone is aware, it is hard running an independent venue with no funding. We have all read recently about other local venues that have come under fire from situations similar to ours, and other independent venues that are struggling under the recession, and we are no different – it is a challenge”. The Boileroom is the latest grass roots venue to be threatened with potential closure, with Manchester’s Night and Day Café and Bristol’s Fleece also recently experiencing similar problems.
