Guilio Tonini, advocate of integrated information theory, at the panpsychism workshop in Byron Bay. Tonini is one of the most influential theorists in contemporary consciousness theory. About 30 of us travelled south after the Science of Consciousness Conference in Brisbane. Perhaps the most notable thing about the workshop for me was the fact that it consisted entirely of lectures. All information and all teaching was abstract conceptualisation. Even in the Mecca if alternative culture and while discussing the idea that consciousness may be pervasive in cosmology and nature, the most frontier minds from the science of consciousness folk still failed to break out of talking head mode. I see this as a serious impediment to a deeper understanding of consciousness in mainstream circles.
