Guillermo has a bacterial infection in his blood, which has led to delirium and confusion. This type of infection is difficult to survive for a healthy person, so even more challenging for someone who has had chemotherapy. He is also experiencing multi-organ failure. His providers have expressed the chemo has not shown any improvements and is unlikely based on the fact that the tumor has not decreased in size and his liver function results have worsened. We have been faced with deciding between putting him on full life support, but after consulting with his doctors realize his likelihood of survival even with support is very small. Even if support improved his survival it would possibly be a couple more weeks of poor quality life. Based on this information, we as a family have decided to keep him from any unnecessary pain and suffering and will not subject him to life support. As much as we want him around as long as we can, we know in our hearts his quality of life is far more important. We are surrounding him with love and comfort and will remain by his side through this last journey of his life. He is in no pain and resting peacefully. On occasion he comes out of sleep to crack jokes, and keep us all laughing and just like the Mo he is, will continue to do this until the end. I am truly pained and sorry for this outcome. It is difficult to make this request because we know how much you all love him, but we are asking to reserve this time with Guillermo for family. Thank you for understanding.
