Guilty of being an American I’m proud to be an American. I love freedom. I love my family. I love my country. Yes, of course, I’m a Christian. I believe in God. I go to church every Sunday, well almost every Sunday. I love the music. It makes me feel good. I love hearing the preacher’s messages except sometimes when he gets a little hard on someone. I know it’s not me but I still feel uncomfortable. Our preacher usually tries to finish by 12 but just in case he goes over, I will just slip out. I have to hurry and get to restaurant before the crowd. Yes I like my preacher. He’s a pretty good old guy. After I plan something I always tell him what I’m going to do. He usually ask, Did you pray about it? I told him, “Well I really feel like it’s the right thing to do so I’m sure God is cool with it.” Hmmm, maybe I should have talked to my Pastor and to God before I made a decision. Lately it makes me feel convicted when I read about third world countries that will listen to preaching for sometimes 7 or 8 hours straight. When I think about every Sunday how I am looking at my watch at 11:30 wondering if we are going to be dismissed by 12. I hear from missionaries how they travel miles on foot, sometimes walking all day to be in church, but think I have a good excuse not to go because my car is running a little strange. It might break down on the way to church. Third world countries bring the lame, the sick, the deaf and dumb to be prayed for in the name of Jesus. I keep my kids home if they have a runny nose. I don’t want anyone to catch their cold. Luke 13:34 (KJV) 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Could God be speaking what he spoke to Jerusalem to America today?
