Guilty of false arrest but not guilty of the physical abuse is a - TopicsExpress

Guilty of false arrest but not guilty of the physical abuse is a crazy verdict. Believing the bogus story that Jordan abused himself is ridiculous. And, if he fought, why werent his hands swollen and his knuckles bruised, did he try and head butt those three big cops to death? Come on... It makes no sense at all. The pile of problems here is mind-numbing. First of all, why was the jury all white? Why do we have jump-out, beat-down cops in our low income neighborhoods, but probably NOT in the neighborhoods of the jury? And why dont we still have a consent decree if there is still this kind of thing happening with the Pittsburgh Police? Heres another question- did anyone ever hear of the Allegheny County police doing this crap? What is the difference between these two departments? How about other police departments, are there any in communities like Braddock or Duquesne or Clairton where African Americans dont get their Civil Rights violated on a regular basis that we could learn from? This is a time to figure out what the community wants to change, what we can win, and put together a campaign to win it. Never forget what has come before in this struggle in Pittsburgh. We did not win justice for so many people whose Civil Rights were violated in Pittsburgh, but the struggle eventually drew enough attention, through the work of dedicated activists and lawyers, to win a Consent Decree for a number of years...We did not win Justice for Johnny Gammage, but we did win a Civilian Review Board. And, although we did not win true justice for Jordan Miles, this is a partial win. He got more money than the first settlement offer, and the city will be forced to do something about the police, or keep paying damages for their bad behavior. The question is, can this community win a say in what is done with the police department, and if so, what does the community want to see in policing in their neighborhoods? How do you want the police to change?
