Gulf Fishery Economics - NOAA Fisheries Data - TopicsExpress

Gulf Fishery Economics - NOAA Fisheries Data -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is some documentation of what has transpired since 2006; EDFs Oceans Team was instrumental in CRAFTING AND PASSING the changes to the Magnuson in the 2006 reauthorization which introduced CATCH SHARES and the accountability measures that have been causing such havoc ever since. Here are some graphs from NOAA Fisheries regarding the loss of income to the Gulf communities due to the result of EDFs interference in our fisheries management - this is the same data quoted by Herb Malone, head of the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Tourism (starting at 09:52) in the video The Truth About The Red Snapper Overpopulation; You Tube You Tube Alabama suffered a 24% decline in revenues and over 1600 lost jobs due to the decline in the ability to catch red snapper from the years 2006 to 2009. Gulf-wide, those figures are a staggering $5.64 BILLION decline in lost revenues and over 54,000 jobs lost from 2006 to 2009. I think we could at least double those figures if we include the subsequent 4 years so the total amount of damages done to our Gulf coastal communities is at least $12 BILLION on well over 100,000 jobs. Interesting side note, but NOAA Fisheries numbers regarding our red snapper landings do not show a decline at all since 2006 even though our seasons/bag limits have been steadily reduced to just a fraction of what we had in 2006. We were able to somehow land more red snapper last year in 20% of the days and 50% of the bag limits than we did in 2006. Numbers dont add up. What can we conclude from this? What is the WORST disaster to hit the Gulf in all of recorded history? A: Ixtoc oil spill B: BP oil spill C: The Environmental Defense Fund D: NOAA Fisheries Incompetence Ding! We have a winner! The Environmental Defense Fund combined with NOAA Fisheries Incompetence has caused more damage to Gulf coastal communities than A & B combined, and they should be held accountable AND liable for those damages. Lastly, here is a graphic showing the planned level of red snapper that they want - we are just a little of 1/2 the way to the rebuilding target in 2032 - anyone see the absolute lunacy of the concept of double the snapper of what we have out there right now? Snapper will be eating everything in sight, forever damaging the Gulf ecosystems beyond repair - much worse than they have already done. They need to unleash the Gulf fishermen to control this Red Snapper Overpopulation Problem. GIVE US OUR 6 MONTH SEASON BACK. Attached Images
