Gulu Town Primary Crowned Toyota “Outreach to Read” Tag Rugby Champions Scores Final: Gulu Town 7 Obiya West 6 Semi Final Obiya West One 5 Gulu PTC two 4 Bungatira Two 2 Gulu Town one 3 With six schools pooled to compete in the Toyota Outreach to Read competition alongside Tag Rugby, all participants were tasked to read and play tag rugby so as to become excellent pupils in school. Kicking off with Tag Rugby action at 9:30 am, brilliant action was exhibited by participants from the six schools in which Gulu Town Primary school outsmart Obiya West in tightly contested final to be declared winners of the first edition of the Reach out to Read Tournament. Each school fielded two teams of players from P1 to P3 Class for the tournament and Rally to Read competition. Toyota Managing Director Dino Bianchi while officially opening the Launch urged Pupils to utilize the reading guide materials alongside playing Tag Rugby to better their performance and Build their Futures. Speaking at the event, the District Education Officer Reverend Vincent representing the Ministry of Education and Sports thanked Toyota Uganda for the great gesture aimed at improving Education through Outreach to Read project Launch in Gulu Town. “We are so grateful to Toyota Uganda’s support accorded to schools in Gulu aimed at improving Education standards in Uganda through the Outreach to Read Pioneer project. They have taken on two birds with one stone and with the current poor performance of the Uganda Rugby Cranes team/ Lady Cranes loss at the Elgon Cup, we thank Toyota for partnering with Tag Rugby Trust to groom skilled players for our Future national teams. While handing over Tag Rugby equipment sponsored by Toyota Uganda to the six schools, Toyota’s Joweriah said. “Work without play makes Jack a dull boy, this equipment should be put to use by all the beneficiaries to help spread the game to other schools and centers in Gulu and improve literacy in Gulu. Toyota Uganda supports Tag Rugby at the Deaf and Special Needs homes in Kampala and would like to see Gulu welcome the Special Needs Homes and Deaf schools on board. We also have centers skills training and the trained coaches from centers that will service schools for their outreach projects.
