Gutierrez spoke passionately in opposition to a toxic, anti-immigrant amendment to the Homeland Security appropriations bill that would restrict federal funding for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that is already providing DREAM Act-eligible youth with work permits and protection from deportation. The amendment also cuts funds to administer prosecutorial discretion for low-priority immigrants. Congressman Gutierrez and other Democrats condemned the amendment as bad policy and a poison pill to the bill.
