Gutting Sarasota 2050: Hearing Thursday Night URBAN SPRAWL ALERT!!!! PLANNING COMMISSION HEARING ON SARASOTA 2050 AMENDMENTS THURSDAY, JULY 24 6:30 pm NORTH COUNTY COMMISSION CHAMBERS 1660 RINGLING BOULEVARD, SARASOTA Please attend this Planning Commission meeting if you can to speak out against the proposed amendments to gut the Sarasota 2050 Plan. The proposed changes would effectively do away with the fiscal neutrality requirement that the huge developments allowed under the Plan pay their own way. They would do that by doing away with the follow-up, true up reports that catch the fraud in the initial developers report (except for a narrow report that measures the effect of any change in the development mix), by reducing the developers fiscal obligation in return for affordable housing already required and by several other changes, detailed in the comments below. The amendments would also eliminate timing limits that now phase the Sarasota 2050 developments out over decades, to allow the whole eastern County to be opened to massive urban development all at one time. Other changes would effectively eliminate Greenways by giving the developers credit for affordable housing, change the character of Hamlet developments to make them large standard subdivisions in rural lands, provide exemptions from Conservation Subdivisions and otherwise gut many requirements of the Sarasota 2050 Plan, in addition to gutting that has already occurred.
