Title: Applications Engineer Exempt Status: Exempt Summary: Responsible to interpret customer requirements, develop design of steam generation systems, specify all required auxiliary equipment, and prepare technical project proposals that will meet customer expectations. Interface internally with Estimating, Proposal Drafting, and Engineering and externally with customers and vendors. Essential Functions: • Design heat recovery systems in a timely manner based on customer specifications, applicable codes and regulations, company standards, and sound engineering judgment. • Adapt to changing customer requirements with ability to work under pressure in a real-time environment. • Prepare timely proposal package and submit to Estimating, Proposal Drafting, and Engineering personnel to enable preparation of accurate proposal drawing and project pricing. • Interface with the customer prior to proposal preparation as required to resolve discrepancies in the inquiry. • Review proposal drawings and estimates for accuracy relating to project scope and design. • Solicit technical and commercial proposals from vendors for major engineered buyout items such as duct burners, de-aerators, catalyst, dampers, etc. • Submit a detailed technical proposal to the customer in a timely manner identifying all areas where exceptions have been taken to the specification and highlighting those areas where the Company’s offer may be superior to the competition. • Participate in proposal follow-up on technical matters, including revised designs, responding to customer queries, and participating in customer presentations. • Define adequately with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Senior Staff Designer all job requirements after receipt of order and during the execution of the project on design clarifications, changes or improvements. Technical Skills: • Strong technical knowledge in areas of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, process systems; steam and other related process system. • Solid engineering background to understand boiler system components and operation, the manufacture of boiler system equipment, and required ASME or foreign code and engineering standards. • Ability to interpret engineering and specification drawings. • Intermediate to advanced technical software skills to keep accurate and easily accessible records such as MS Office. Physical Requirements: • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. • Ability to type on a keyboard and operate a personal computer. • Ability to converse over a telephone. • Ability to perform work within office environment, travel, and carry out on-site equipment and facility assessments and attend customer meetings. Education: B.S. Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with a thorough working knowledge in the areas of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow and process systems. Experience: Engineering graduate, 2 to 10 years experience. Special Dimensions: Up to 15% travel required.
