HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO NEIL PEART! Born Neil Ellwood Peart on September 12 1952 in Ontario, Canada. Hes a Canadian musician and author. Hes the drummer and lyricist for the rock group Rush. Hes received numerous awards for his musical performances and is known for his technical proficiency and stamina. He didnt get his first drum kit until 14 and drew his initial inspiration from the bombastic styles of Keith Moon and John Bonham then began to emulate the styles of jazz and big band drummers Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. He joined Rush after their first album when original drummer John Rutsey left the band. In 1997 his 19 year old daughter died in a car accident and 10 months later his common law wife died of cancer so he went on a 55 thousand miles motorcycle road trip through North and Central America thinking hed never play drums again. His demons were exercised by writing books and eventually found himself back behind a drum kit. The audiences most eagerly awaited moment during a Rush concert is for his drum solo on a song he had no part in writing, Working Man. Heres his drum solo during Geddy and Alexs break in the middle of that song. It is a symposium in drum solos by the professor of the drum cage.....Enjoy!
