HAPPY BIRTHDAY to son RONALD RANJEET ROSHAN SINGH : son Thakur and Shashi Kala Singh and grandson of Mr and Mrs Hans Raj Bansi of Rarawai, Golflinks, Ba, and Mr and Mrs Shiu Shankar of Lausa, Ba, and great grandson of Girmitiya , Thakur Bansi Chauhan from Karouli, Rajasthan, India. Thirty years ago I was summoned to Palmerston North Hospital and given the good message: you are father of a little man. My friend Udai Prasad ( formerly of NBF Bank, of Vunimoli, Labasa, now of Suva), was also with me when we saw this bundle of joy for the first time , on a cold autumn morning of 23 May, 1984. Within a week, he had a black Kiwi passport, and five weeks after his birth, we flew back to Fiji in Air New Zealand Boeing 747 ( they also then had DC 10). When he was almost five months in his Mother, Shashi Kalas womb, we took a motor caravan and visited West coast of South Island from Picton to Invercargill ( through Greymouth, Hokitika, Queenstown, Milford Sound) and then back to Palmerston North via east coast (Christchurch and Dunedin side of the Island.) This travel, very early in the age, gave him an obsession for travel and when reaching 30, he has had some 147 plane trips and same amount of road trips and have been around the world a few times, and been to many countries. He just touched down for his 30th birthday after a trip to Hong Kong, Europe and northernmost Scandinavia. Like his father, he also has an obsession for writing and started writing already. He is different from most people of 30 years you will meet. He has his likes and adventures, which includes sky diving and surfing, apart from travelling. I am so happy he is living the life his father did not live, and his great grandfather Bansi could hardly have dreamed that one day his great grandchildren will achieve their dreams through sacrifices, vision and dreams our Girmitiyas. Ronald has written a piece dedicating to his forebears. I just hope other youngsters of these days would start having pride in their heritage and history. That is why I have obsession to remember our forebears when most of us seem to have forgotten them. And Ronald has got that from his father- he is thankful to his heritage, and unlike many of his age, still remembers them through his writings. We are thankful for this gift from God. He is more a friend to me now than a son. My blessings to him. Aayushmaan Bhava beta, Chranjeevi Bhava, may you have a long life, and may your wishes come true, may you be bestowed with good health, wealth and family happiness. Some Dulhan, Bride-to be, somewhere would be so lucky to have you as a life-partner. God has his plans and speaks in mysterious ways - I am still waiting for His call. I am not bragging, but just letting other fathers realise and appreciate that a time comes when their son becomes their friend, and they need to express their feelings, as I have done [ In case you cannot do that, hire Media Relations Limited, and I will write that for you- (sorry for this commercial break). You enriched us and people around you. Happy 30th Birthday. This pictorial gallery for the birthday boy.
