HAPPY HALLOWEEN! This is, in my opinion, Tool’s best kept secret. Even more so than the ever-elusive studio track: “Problem 8 (The Riemann Hypothesis)”, which may or may not actually exist. I am no stranger to the concept of Pareidolia and the human brain’s outstanding knack for pattern recognition. If you know me, you know I’m a skeptic of most things. If you approach me with something unbelievable, the burden of proof is on you. But this thing... The evidence is there and in a manner which challenges you to just shrug it off as coincidence. From the opening sound on ‘The Grudge’ unmistakably resembling that of a film projector revving up just as the film begins, all the way through to the very end as the final credits roll up off the screen and ‘Faaip De Oiad’ (the secret song) begins (EXACTLY enough silence following ‘Triad’ for this to work)... And right down to the name of the album itself: LATERALUS – (Lateral: A SIDE part of something). If a gun were held to my head, and my life depended on me answering correctly... I would say that Tool wrote Lateralus to intentionally compliment A Nightmare Before Christmas. There is simply more evidence supporting the intentionality than any argument against it. Note: I’ve been informed that the timing may be off by 1-2 seconds (that I should try syncing the pumpkins hitting the posts starting with the 3rd power chord instead of the first). I plan to try this soon along with finally finishing up my little essay which will spout a myriad of evidence for the intentionality of the sync by the band. ENJOY!
