HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!! As we enter another New Year (Im amazed that it seemed only yesterday my mom was stockpiling cans of food for the Y2K scare! Now both parents have gone on, children have grown, so much has changed in my life... good and bad and yet unknown.....) I pray that 2015 brings you Joy, Love, Peace, Health, Family & Friends who love you, are near to you and, for those that pursue it, a sense of accomplishment and the reaching of goals set or soon to be set.... If I can help you reach your goals, Id love to be a part.... The Calendar is attached..... I will soon (later today!) be uploading a couple of files to the Facebook page. My web master will be working on the website this week as well (or as soon as he has the time). Upcoming Dates! BARN HUNT CLASSES: Starting in January I will be alternating the current Tuesday 5-6:30 Novice class with a Wed 5-6:30 Advanced Class. All classes are $25 per dog and I need to know you are coming in advance to provide the adequate, quality of instruction I want to continue to provide to those interested in this exciting and rapidly growing sport. The Tuesday Class will continue to focus on teaching dogs a reliable indication (and their humans how to read their dogs!), proper search procedures, tunnel skills and more. The Wed. Advanced Class will assume handlers already have these skills and will focus on multiple & unknown number of rat finds with minimal focus given to the Tuesday skills. Students that are lacking and time out will be encouraged to work on a specific and reliable indication. It IS possible for a student to attend BOTH depending on what the team wishes to work on. For those of you that do not know me I DO have a background in Cadaver & Narcotics detection, Tracking and other scent work and pass this on to my students. There is MORE to the hunt than just turning the dog lose in the fenced in area to madly dash about. Foundation Agility Class starts January 12th. Pre-registration is required. PLEASE e-mail me for info ASAP so I can plan accordingly. This is how I teach my own highly successful competition dogs. You can read my Bio (needs to be updated but youll get the drift ). I do NOT offer this class on a regular basis and do not anticipate offering it again in 2015. Foundation is taught in two six week sessions. This 10 AM Monday time slot will be discontinued late Spring at the conclusion of this class and students will graduate to an appropriate class held at a different time. Seminars & Workshops! I will be holding mini-seminars or workshops throughout the year in an effort to provide a focused study area. If you have a specific area of interest please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail with your suggestions. The first of these mini-seminars will be held January 30th & 31st. The price for each portion will be kept low to allow those new in the sport to attend. Working spots will be limited to 10 and will be $75. Auditing spots will be $30. For those that wish to attend both sessions in a day the price will be dicounted to $120 (a $30 savings). All-day Auditors will be $50 (A $10 savings). Handouts will be provided (via e-mail) to both working participants and auditors to allow you to refer back to what was covered long after your workshop. For those that would like a mini-camp experience attending all 4 workshops is discounted an additional $20 ($220 for all 4 Workshops!). Auditors will receive an additional $20 discount ($80 for all 4 workshops). We have 6 RV (dry camping) spots for those that wish to attend and stay over. There is NO CHARGE for those attending a full day. Overnight camping is normally available at $15 a night. January 30th, AM session 8:30 AM-12:30 PM Distance workshop. My particular methods & progression are unique to me and incorporate techniques Ive learned over the last 40 yrs teaching dog classes, the last 24 yrs teaching Agility. Some of these have been cross overs from obedience including things learned from notables like Janice DeMello, Terry Arnold & Connie Cleveland (and many more) although there have been a few Agility contributors as well. I do give credit for most to the obedience greats I was privileged to train with over the years preceding the tremendous growth of Agility the last decade and a half. Those that have watched me run any of my dogs are usually impressed with the distance & directional control I have even with Novice dogs. Its not magic... I can teach you how to do the very same thing. January 30th, PM session 1 PM-5 PM Fixing a Cracked Foundation Addressed in this 4 hour block will be speeding up ANY dog, Contact issues, Weave Pole problems, Memory and Course skills and more. This is a seminar that in its full form has been taught all over the USA & Internationally met with a positive response. I will decide what to cover based on those that sign up and their needs. January 31st, AM Session 8 AM- 12 PM INTRODUCTION TO BARN HUNT This workshop is intended for those that are interested in learning more about the exciting and rapidly growing sport of Barn Hunt. No experience is necessary. Barn Hunt is especially great with older dogs that need something to do now that their agility career is over BUT its certainly not limited to old dogs! Youngsters as young as 6 months can compete and title in this exciting new sport that relies on your dogs ability to sniff out a rat! (Rats are SAFE & SECURE in a 4 PVC Ventilated Container and NO rats are harmed). Barn Hunt will NOT cause Agility dogs to run off sniffing out rodents. Youd be surprised (and maybe amazed) at the scent abilities of our dogs! Its what they do naturally regardless of the size, age or breed! January 31st PM session Start Line Strategies & Coping With Distractions Different techniques of teaching a start line stay will be addressed as well as learning to start ANY course WITHOUT one (which is necessary when training a Start Line Stay!). Distractions will be covered in detail with ideas and home work ideas to further proof your dog for what will undoubtedly show up in trials! Private Lessons and more.... If you have something youd like to teach your dog and need help getting started whether it be obedience (competition healing, scent articles, directed jumping etc), tricks, Service Dog Training, Barn Hunt & Agility, e-mail me for information on how I can help you and your dog. I use POSITIVE MOTIVATIONAL METHODS on DOGS AND PEOPLE ! This doesnt mean I never use negatives but it is rare.... You get MUCH better results when your dog WANTS to learn what you have to teach than when you FORCE your dog to comply! My dogs are happy willing workers and thats how I train with very few exceptions. If you have specific questions please e-mail me. I believe that dogs WANT to do what we WANT them to do but most of the time the human falls short on explaining it in a way that the dog can comprehend..... Usually TOO much TOO soon..... its a common mistake! Its RARELY your dogs fault..... I am an advocate for dogs!!!!! Thanks for reading and I hope to work with you in 2015!!! God Bless! Bonnie
