HAPPY TAIL TALE ARES (now WALLACE) - the dog with deformed - TopicsExpress

HAPPY TAIL TALE ARES (now WALLACE) - the dog with deformed spine ARES is a very young pure breed Argentinean Mastiff. His previous owner adopted him when he was a pup. As he grew older they found out he had malformation in his spine and had problems going up and down the stairs etc. Instead of providing the care he needed, he was crated for hours in a crate in which he could not even stretch. Finally, they decided he was a burden that should be given up. When we took him in, Ares was skin and bones; probably 20 lbs. underweight and in bad shape with raw skin and long toenails. We had him thoroughly checked out and X-rayed. The diagnosis confirmed that a surgery could not fix the spine issues. It’s not sure how the spinal issues may affect his health in future or his life span. Ares was placed in a very loving and responsible foster home of Anita and Shaun, and from there he thrived. He acted just like a puppy. He would run around, play tug of war, go up and down the stairs (we believe the reason he could not do the stairs in his previous home was due to the long toenails, not the deformed spine!); he was never tired or in pain. In two months his strength, appetite and demeanour had all improved. He changed from a weak and unhealthy dog to a normal, healthy and active dog. One can never underestimate what good exercise; good diet and TLC can do to an animal! Thanks Anita and Shaun! Despite his deformed spine, we believe that there might be someone out there who realises that while Ares has some physical limitations, he still has a lot to give. We decided to give it a try and posted Areas for adoption. We were very truthful in his bio, and enquirers were provided the medical facts on Ares. Well, if there are miracles, then this must be one of them. A Vet, who is also an Animal Chiropractor and Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, saw his posting and was interested in Ares. After meeting Ares and also reviewing all his medical records, she decided to adopt him! Who could take better care of Ares than a vet and with that kind of experience! Ares went to his new home just before the New Year. His new name is now Wallace. He has free reign of the whole house and again can do the stairs. He shows no signs of pain or soreness. He now has two other doggies to play with. All three are learning to co-habitat with each other as well as the cat. After the home visit by Anita and Shaun, they reported: “He looked good, healthy, and happy. He has gained weight.. Sarah has started with some chiropractic treatments and will be taking Ares in next week for X-rays of his spine.”
