HAPPY THE MAN WHO HAS PLACED HIS TRUST IN THE LORD. Jesus uses three word pictures to describe the nature of his mission: fire, baptism and division. The Bible teaches us that divine fire destroys all that is evil but purifies all that is good. One should recall the burning bush in which Moses met Yahweh, the fire that fell from heaven and consumed the sacrifice on Mt Carmel in Elijahs time and the fire that would purify Israel according Malachi 3. Jesus is restless till hi is baptised. He does not justify peaceful co-existence that would explode any time. He desires to have a clear-cut decision from his followers. If we do not stand for something we may fall for everything. The cost of this standing for something is division in ones family. The division suggests that not all people will accept the mission of Jesus with equal sense fo enthusiasm. What is the cost of discipleship expectted of me as the follower of Jesus?
