HARARE - Manicaland Mountaineers coach Gary Brent is confident new signings Forster Mutizwa and Innocent Chinyoka will add depth to the Mutare franchise. Mountaineers have signed wicketkeeper-batsman Mutizwa and pace bowler Innocent Chinyoka from Mashonaland Eagles to reinforce their squad ahead of the upcoming 2013-14 domestic season. Mutizwa, 28, has featured in 58 first-class matches and has scored 10 centuries and 15 half-tons since making his debut in 2014. He has played 17 ODIs and a single Test for Zimbabwe. 31-year-old Chinyoka, a medium pacer and able swing bowler, has taken 89 wickets from 43 matches. He debuted at first-class level back in 2002. “These are massive signings as Forster will really strengthen the batting and Innocent will be equally potent on the bowling front,” Brent told the Daily News yesterday. “I’m very happy with the squad we have.” Mountaineers won the inaugural domestic franchise Twenty20 competition last year, having also clinched the old Stanbic T20 at its inception in 2011, but have seen the four-day Logan Cup elude them. Meanwhile, Mashonaland Eagles welcomed former national team batsman Mark Vermeulen, who will be a direct replacement for captain Stuart Matsikenyeri, who has resigned from cricket. “After the sudden retirement of our captain we are glad that we have signed Mark, who will stabilise the middle-order batting department,” Eagles coach Steve Mangongo said yesterday. “We also have a number of junior players that we have elevated into the team and hopefully it will be a good season for us.”
