HARD FREEZE WARNING: The NWS has issued a Hard Freeze Warning for our area from 10 pm tonite thru 11 am Friday. A strong blast of cold arctic air will surge into the area today and tonite, causing temperatures to fall into the upper teens to low 20s. Windy conditions will cause bitterly cold wind chill factors in the mid to low teens. 12 – 15 hours of below freezing conditions are likely, with 7 – 10 hours of hard freeze conditions possible. Temperatures this low over the projected duration of this weather event present a hazard to human life, as well as to pets, livestock, crops & other vegetation and the potential for frozen and burst pipes and plumbing presents property damage hazards. Avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, especially during pre-dawn and sunrise hours when temperatures are at their coldest. Exposed outdoor pipes & plumbing should be insulated, drained or allowed to slowly drip in order to prevent freezing. Keep pets indoors if possible; otherwise provided warm, dry shelter and sufficient food and unfrozen water. Livestock should be sheltered if possible, and provided sufficient food & water. Cover plants & other sensitive vegetation and take proper mitigation measures to protect against crop losses. Avoid the use of portable space heaters except in well ventilated areas free from combustible materials. Please check on family members, friends & neighbors, particularly our seasoned citizens, to insure that they are aware of these forecasted weather conditions and that they have taken appropriate protective measures to protect themselves, their pets and property. Monitor your local weather stations for forecast updates & additional information.
