HAS THE FEAR OF GOD VANISHED? There is no fear of GOD in our political leaders, or in modern day Christianity. There is no fear of GOD on television, in music, or in movies. Todays society mocks GOD and laughs at His truths. Our culture reviles GOD and ridicules the Bible as a fairy tale. Our social, artistic, educational, and entertainment culture in America has become a place where GOD is not wanted. Do you think GOD does not see this? Do you think the abomination of this culture has not been seen by the Almighty in the throne room of heaven? GOD says in Isaiah 37:28 “But I know you well—where you stay and when you come and go. I know the way you have raged against Me.” HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE TO STAND BEFORE GOD? Think about standing before the creator of the entire universe. Does this cause you to tremble? Christians are to have a holy respect for the judgment of God and a sense of trembling in awe at all of His glory and greatness. GODS people are suppose to be in such a holy union with Him that we love what He loves and hate what He hates and dare not even think to disobey Him. If you identify yourself as an Christian you should be giving GOD the honor and reverence He deserves. You should obey Him no matter what the cost. You cannot filter GOD’s Word and commands through secular cultural influenced thinking. It is like when GOD says in His Word- “idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal. 5:21) Do you rationalize that “it doesn’t apply to me. Do you think you are exempt if obeying makes your life uncomfortable? Thinking like that is the reason sin runs rampant among those who profess to be Christians and the fear of God is lost. Secular thinking among Christian is the reason lukewarmness is prevalent in too many churches. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8 When you truly understand who GOD is you will develop a reverential fear of Him. Fearing God means having such a reverence for Him that it has a great impact on the way we live our lives. The fear of God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshiping Him in awe. When we truly fear the Lord, we will recognize that He is the Creator and we are His creations. He is the Master and we are the servants. He is the Father and we are the children. This attitude will manifest itself in our having a respect for God, His Word and in our having a desire to do what He tells us to in His Bible. GOD is holy, just, and righteous. And only those who are holy will see Him. Make every effort to ....be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14 Holy means dedicated. Genuine fear of the Lord is always seen in obedience to the Word of God, Proverbs. 8:13. People who do not walk in line with God’s Word, do not fear the Lord, regardless of what they profess with their lips. Therefore, when we fear the Lord, there is also such a respect for Him and for His will that nothing else matters but doing that which pleases the Lord. To fear GOD is to keep His commandments always, to obey His voice, to serve Him and cleave to Him with all our heart with nothing held back from our obedience and devotion to Him. The fear of the Lord promotes holy living. The person who truly reverences and respects the Lord as he should will not do anything that brings disgrace, dishonor or pain to the heart of the Lord. People who genuinely fear the Lord will flee from evil. The prospect of causing the Lord pain will be too great to bear! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of the knowledge of GOD, the starting point for an intimate relationship with God. We cannot even begin to know GOD on intimate terms until we fear Him. Psalm 25:14-The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him. God reveals the magnificent treasures and secret truths of His Word to those who fear Him.
