HAVE YOU LOST OR FOUND A PET? Perth Pets In Need recommend microchipping your pets and making sure all pets wear current ID tags. If your pet is microchipped please make sure the chip is in working order and has current contact details next time you visit the vet. These small measures will save you a lot of stress should your pet go missing. Lost pets *If you have lost a pet please call your local ranger and make a report. Many rangers also have a number for after office hours and weekends. It is advisable to call surrounding shires too as you dont know which direction or how far your pet might travel. * Call surrounding vets. People often hand found animals in to vets, especially on weekends or after hours. *Door knock and search your local area and place a lost pet sign with a photo at the front of your house will help if your pet hasnt strayed far. *Place lost ads online to reach as many people as you can. (Please see list below for recommended links). Include a good quality photo and important details about your pet to give them the best chance of being recognised. * If you havent found your pet within the first day or two, intensify your search. Call all pounds, vets and refuges. Dont forget Julies Kennels, The Animal Protection Society, Shenton Park Dogs Refuge Home and Swan Animal Haven. Visit pounds in person, the rangers description of an animal may differ from yours. Place flyers around your own and surrounding neighbourhoods and on noticeboards at the local shops. This will help reach those who do not have the internet. *Stay positive! pets can be reunited with their owners weeks, months or years after they go missing. Found pets *If you sight or find a lost dog please report to your local ranger. If you cant hold on to the dog the ranger will pick them up and take them to the pound. *If it is possible take found pets to a local vet to get scanned for a microchip. You will not be charged and this can be an easy way to find the family. The vet will sometimes hold on to the animal if you cant keep them with you. *Advertise the found pet online. Include a clear photo so they can be easily recognised. *Place a sign at the front of your house in case the owners are out looking for their pet and put up flyers. *Please make every effort to find the rightful owner of the animal. Ask for photo ID and ask lots of questions. *Please do not adopt found pets without exhausting every option to find the pets owners. If you find smaller animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets and birds) and fail to locate their owners there are rescues which may be able to help or to rehome these animals. https://facebook/pages/Perth-Pet-Bird-Rescue/283231691810398?fref=ts https://facebook/WASARescue?fref=ts waffs.org.au/ https://facebook/notes/perth-pets-in-need/lost-and-found-other-links-pages/594314073920985
