HE LEAVES THE CROWD BEHIND From a distance I can see A crowd of people coming towards me Excitement rides before them upon the air For the one among them that truly cares He brings healing for body, mind and soul And comforts those who seem beyond console He looks for those the world has thrown away To bring peace and love to all their days For this reason He leaves the crowd behind Because I am one He longs to find As He approaches my heart skips a beat For the one I’ve always longed to meet Now as He finally stands before me His tender and caring look I do not see Because I cannot look Him in the face For fear He will see my shame and disgrace The intensity of His stare has me bound So my gaze now slowly leaves the ground His feet are dirty from the miles He has tread And give a hint to the hard life He has led A robe torn and faded grace His frame Belying the grace from which He came His hands are beautifully formed But are calloused, bruised, and worn Yet in them gentleness can be found When in His grasp my hand is wound I found a sweet smile upon His lips Causing the fear in my heart to lose its grip Long hair framed a peaceful face That was filled with the promise of His loving grace But it was His eyes that told the tale In them I found a love that would not fail I knew from the moment I grazed into His eyes He could see right through all the lies For He could see what I tried so hard to hide All the secrets and the pain I kept deep inside I dreaded the day my secrets would be revealed Because I knew I could not keep them forever concealed Yet even though before Him my life was laid bare He still embraced me without a care He held me when others would have pulled away Because He loves me come what may Now I feel special in a way I’ve never felt before Because He left the crowd so my broken heart may be restored He said not a word to me that day But His love says more than mere words can convey For what better way to say “I love you” than To give His life for every child, woman, and man
