HE cost of education has to be met by someone and the reduction of grants to urban schools is having a detrimental effect on quality of education as the demands are very high. This was highlighted by the president of the School Management Association of Fiji, Govind Singh, who also said primary school funding remains a problem. "A lot of resources are needed to further boost the supportive and enabling environment," Mr Singh said. He also said the association had put a request to FEA last year as part of their social corporate responsibility. "Our findings show that large secondary schools in Fiji pay as much as $26,000 per annum in FEA bills." Education Ministry permanent secretary Dr Brij Lal said he would look at the concerns raised by Mr Singh.
