HEAD OF MIDDLE YEARS NANJING INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (CHINA) Position Posted 8/12/2013 Deadline 9/25/2013 Nanjing International School – an inclusive learning community Nanjing, China seeks a Head of Middle Years (6-9) effective 1st August 2014 Nanjing International School (NIS) is seeking a new Head of Middle Years (6-9) to begin in August 2014. The position will become open as Arden Tyoschin will replace Richard Swart as Deputy Director - Learning. Richard has served as K-12 Principal with great success for eight years. Established in 1992 as a not-for-profit school, NIS currently has 710 expatriate students from Pre-K through 12th grade, who represent 45 nationalities. The school follows the IB PYP, MYP and DP frameworks for learning and was the first K-12 IB accredited school in China. The school is also accredited by Council of International Schools (CIS), New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and National Center for Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT) in China. The school had its successful 5 year joint accreditation visit last year. NIS has a stunning campus on the outskirts of Nanjing. The city Metro has a stop at the school which makes access to the city easy. These world class facilities enable a world class faculty to ensure all students have a consistently high quality learning experience at NIS. The Position The Head of Middle Years is a member of the Senior Education Team and reports to the Deputy Director for Learning. The school leadership structure is built around two organizational aspects – Learning and Operations. The Senior Education Team deal with the Learning which is the prime focus for good schools. Working collaboratively, the Senior Education Team ensure an effective K-12 continuum of learning. The Deputy Director for Learning is a part of the Senior Leadership Team with the Deputy Director of Operations and the School Director. The Senior Leadership Team dedicates itself to serving the needs of students and teachers in order to optimize learning. The Head of Middle Years is an educational leader who works collaboratively with teaching colleagues to promote student achievement. The Head of Middle Years will also lead the Middle Years Programme which is the framework for learning within which our curriculum resides. We work as one school on campus with an integrated K-12 design which causes all teachers and students to interact during the school day, whether passing each other in the corridor or using the same specialist facilities. Teaching Faculty Our teaching faculty is diverse coming from 18 countries with a school leadership team of six each of whom is from a different country. The average amount of teaching experience is 16 years. The vast majority of teachers renew contracts, with a growing number staying long term. We have common teaching breaks during the day helping teachers build professional friendships and mutual respect across the learning spectrum. There is a unique feel engendered on this campus.
