HEADLINER JAMAL HATTAR Jamal Hattar headlines an evening of "East meets West" stand-up comedy at The Brickell Irish Pub. Born in Palestine, Jamal has lived in the United States for over 30 years, most of them in Miami, and four of them as a Cuban. He has performed his Latin-flavored comedy at clubs around the country, and for the soldiers of the U.S. Southern Command. In addition to appearing with Jeff Ross on Comedy Central, he has opened for Paula Poundstone, and was featured on Slacker Radio. Jamal was born in Palestine on a cold February night in a single room home in Jerusalem. He was delivered by a midwife after completing the required 9 month term. He tried to come out early but the weather was too cold. His parents wanted to name him Jesus but decided to name him Jamal since they were not Mexican. It took Jamal years to get through his childhood even though he tried to speed up the process. By age 19 he was already 25 years old but he was still younger than his 5 siblings. He came to Canada to study at York University, but he failed the interview with immigration. When they asked him what his future plans were he told them he would return to the Middle East. He thought that they would like that answer. He did not expect that they would want him to stay. As a Palestinian nobody ever wanted him to stay. Jamal broke into the United States from Niagara Falls and hitch-hiked his way to Miami. But when he reached Miami he could not get into the immigration building. Security was tight. Crossing the border had been easier. He later got adopted. He got a PhD in economics, and he taught at the University of Miami, FIU, and Webber College. Jamal got married and had two beautiful children and an ugly one. He could not support his family on a teacher’s salary. So he entered the nightclub business… He started his comedy career as a joke. He found his calling a couple of years ago at a variety of open mike rooms in South Florida. He climbed the comedy ladder quickly. HEADLINER ESTHER KU Esther Ku is a comedian, actress and musician but mostly comedian because that’s what she told me to write first. I am her stenographer. (Not really, but she wants you to think she has a stenographer because she doesn’t want you to think she wrote her own bio.) Ku can be seen as a series regular on MTV’s new female-driven comedy series GIRLCODE on Tuesday nights at 10:30/9:30c. GirlCode is the sister show of MTV2’s hit show GUYCODE. Ku recently wrapped filming on The Cookout 2 with Ja Rule, Charlie Murphy, Vivica Fox, and Faizon Love. The film was directed by Lance Rivera. She can currently be seen in a national Office Depot ad and an international Volkswagon television commercial. Ku was selected as a finalist in NBC’s Last Comic Standing Season 6. She was also selected by Howard Stern as a finalist in the Hottest Funniest Chick Contest on Sirius Satellite Radio. She has performed in the hit comedy Shear Madness, the longest-running non-musical play in American theatre history.
