HEALTH ALERT: Dogs Imported into the United States with Questionable Documentation Please find attached Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Division of Global Migration and Quarantine’s HEALTH ALERT: Imported Dogs with Questionable Documentation. The documents intended audience is companion animal veterinary practitioners; as well as animal health, public health, and animal control agencies. CDC is reporting that an increasing number of dogs are imported into the US from rabies-endemic countries with questionable documentation of prior rabies vaccination. Therefore, veterinarians are asked to carefully review rabies vaccination certificates or other documentation of vaccination presented to them by owners of recently imported dogs and revaccinate the animals if the documentation does not match the dog, has been photocopied or is otherwise questionable in the opinion of the veterinarian. Revaccinating a currently vaccinated dog has not been associated with an increased risk of adverse reactions. There are links to useful CDC and New Jersey Department of Health websites listed at the end of the attached document.
