:::HEARD ABOUT NATURAL MUMMIES::: The Bog Mummies, who are more commonly referred to as the bog people, are the naturally preserved human corpses that were found in the sphagnum bogs in Northern Europe. The bog people have retained their skin and internal organs due to the highly acidic water, low temperature, and a lack of oxygen in their surrounding area. It is believed that the majority of the 1,850 bog people found are from the Iron Age. Many of them have been killed in similar manners and disposed of in the same area, indicating a ritualistic killing. Why were they murdered and placed in the bogs? No one knows for sure, but scientists continue to be fascinated by the bog people.
