HEAVY RAIN ALERT NUMBER ONE Heavy Rain ALERT Number one issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service at 9:00am this morning on Monday the 03rd of February 2014. A Heavy Rain Alert is inforce for Western, Central, Guadalcanal, Makira and Rennell & Bellona provinces. Situation: An active monsoon trough lies south of Solomon Islands and links to a developing tropical Low of 999 hectopascals at 5am this morning re-located approximately 260 nautical miles south-southwest of Rennell Island. Associated cloud and rain are expected to affect the Solomon Islands within the next 24 to 48 hours. Such localised Heavy Rain may lead to possible flash flooding or flooding over communities living close to large rivers, streams and low lying areas. Next update will be issued at 5:00 pm this evening. Date :03rd February 2014 Marine Warnings A fresh to strong west to northwest winds of 15 to 25knots reaching 30knots with moderate northwest swells is developing over most Solomon Island waters.
