HELP - Looking for some advice on how to proceed with this 1966 Polara 500 Convertible I picked up recently. Originally I went to look at a parts car on a friends tip, but soon found myself with what I think might be something worth saving. It was originally a 383 automatic, console shifted. The original 383 is long gone, but it came with a 440 from a 1968 Chrysler New Yorker in good condition. It appears to have had a white and black interior and a Dark Red ? Maroon Exterior (Spanish Red/Red Met.) but someone painted over the white on the side panels at some point. Came with power windows, tilt and telescopic steering wheel. Do these options make this any more desirable a car, or just more valuable for the parts? Unfortunately no build sheet has been found in the car. The car is basically 95% complete, has rusty floor pans as expected with any convertible, and a little rust in the bottom of the quarters and rear wheel lips along with the rear edge of the trunk lid, little bit on the hood and door edges, and the back bumper is soft, but appears otherwise solid. Trunk floor and subframes look pretty good, etc. Doors shut nicely and don;t appear to be misaligned. Top is still there and I powered it up. Appears it will operate. The dash pad is in mint condition. Console is all there, but weathered a bit. The seats are all there, but need to be redone. The front clip has been replaced at some point and is virtually 100% rust free, solid and straight. The inner fenders are two different colours and the drivers fender wears a plain Polara script emblem while the passenger side has a Polara 440 badge. The fender tag attached to the driver inner fender belonged to a four door sedan, so I think this car was banged up at some point or it was replaced due to rust. Either way the front end is pretty cherry, grille included aside from the hood needing a little TLC. Serial No. DL27G632025-- So I ask you fellows to weigh in here and help me make a decision as to whether I should part out and scrap this car or is it worth while to repair it... Im also wondering what the production numbers are for something like this... is the 500 model more desireable and rarer??? - and are these the original hubcaps? Please comment below. Thanks guys!! :o)
