HELP! DOCTORS & HEART SPECIALIST NURSES NEEDED! Im working on my Sodium & Chloride Fact sheet for my Naturopathic Nutrition course... Can anyone please tell me how myocordial fibrosis can lead to high blood pressure? (Or if this is the case at all?!) Im writing about the (unclear) link between excessive sodium intake and BP... It has been suggested that extracellular sodium concentrations may adversely affect vascular reactions, and growth and stimulate myocordial fibrosis. I understand most of it (the sodium-potassium pumps role in nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction and cardiac function) but just dont get how myocordial fibrosis could cause high BP. Is it because of thickening of heart valves etc raises BP rather than normal sized valves and arteries gives normal/lower BP??? HELP just missing one jigsaw in the puzzle!
