HELP! Has anybody suffered a mystery lameness like this before pls? I XCd my boy (18yro id x connie, acts like a 4 yr old) over some little ditches at home, nothing big at all, all within his comfort range and gave him a good canter around, nothing happened, he was amazing, best hes ever jumped, then had a day off in the field (lives out) then a staff member brought him in and said he didnt quite look sound walking through all the mud, trotted him up in straight line and maybe 1/5 lame, not sound on a hard circle, my boss told me to just take him for a gentle hack around the farm (never trotted him on a hard circle before as hes a loan and he did have mud fever so put it down to that), stuffed him in a stable for a few hours, tacked up, got on, went to turn, hopped straight off. He seemed much lamer, trotted striaght line and really quite lame. He went on box rest for a week and become extremely lame and left front leg become swollen (he was lame on right) and looked like a classic tendon so we had the vet come down to scan. The vet blocked his fetlock down, still very lame, the scan showed all tendons were fine but very minor suspensory but the vet has said it wont be the cause as the lameness vs. the degree wasnt right (it was just general old age wear) and he was by now 3/5th lame! Vet told me to speak to owner re. hows going to foot the bill and left. His owners were very chilled and just askked for him to be box reted as if scan came clear said he should come fine. However, he did go back to 2/5th sort of lame so was put in a very small, hard grouned paddock for a few days running and seemed fine, then again miraculously became dog lame again overnight as it was described (I was away at a competition) so is back to solid box rest, its been 3 weeks and absolutely no improvement whatsoever, he does look worse on soft ground so naturally im starting to wonder the suspensory? however the damage is just so mild it shouldnt even affect him! We have a horse on box rest for a tendon and he become sound quicker!
