HELP PEOPLE HELP PEOPLE - MINI REVOLUTION NUMBER ONE: CHANNELING MICRO-DONATIONS Some of you know me from discussions on this FB group, and a few have even met me personally. I will soon be leaving South Korea since I was not able to find a job here (too old, male, too much experience), and before I leave I would like to make an appeal to those of you who can afford it, and might deem my new venture interesting and worthwhile, to make a small contribution and perhaps also spread the word among your friends, family and acquaintances, or even collaborate with me directly. I’m trying to build what I call a PNGO (Personal Non-Governmental Organization) as I bike around the world, first from Europe to Japan, then maybe (in a few years) across the Americas. Eventually this could become an entire network of nomadic, philanthropic cyclists or travelers in general who wish to solicit micro-donations for a better world. That would be phase 2 of this project and would require a dedicated website. The first part is for me to make it work with myself as the main agent. As you will see in the links provided, the concept is basically that I will be biking for many months and years, and the people I encounter along the way will give me micro-donations (maybe even just $2 or $3) for this or that charity or for personal documented projects (kind of like KIVA does), and with each donation I will also collect (unless they insist on anonymity) their email address. Once the accumulated donations are channeled (monthly or quarterly) to their intended destinations, email confirmations will be sent to each original donor in order to maintain my personal credibility and to communicate news, perhaps even solicit new donations. I would retain a small percentage of the initial donations (10%) up to a maximum of $300 from all the donations of any given month. For example, if in a given month only 150 people donated $2 each ($300), I would only keep $30, and the remaining $270 would be transferred to the organizations and projects. Of course, depending on the fees, such transfers may need to be made quarterly instead of monthly. I’m thinking of offering a “monthly philanthropic menu” of organizations like Amnesty International, Greenpeace, Red Cross, etc. and other things such as the non-profit a friend of mine just started for India, or organizations that promote cycling and environmental or ecological stuff. Anyway, please have a look and let me know what you think. And, if anyone is willing to collaborate with me on this before I leave Korea, let me know. For example, I could use help with my website (iduran), which I have to redo completely now, and it might be interesting to have a Korean language version of the texts; so if you feel like translating as a volunteer, let me know!MINI REVOLUTION NUMBER ONE: CHANNELING MICRO-DONATIONS Some of you know me from discussions on this FB group, and a few have even met me personally.
