HELP SAVE SMITHY WOOD. If you live in the Sheffiled area, this may be of interest to you. Smithy Wood is ancient woodland close to the M1 and is in grave danger of being destroyed to make way for a new (and totally unnecessary) motorway service area. The stupidity is that there is a brownfield site that could be used right next to it. The Woodland Trust are engaged in a campaign to save Smithy Wood and, if you live in or around Sheffield, there is a public meeting arranged as part of the campaign. Hereare the details: "Alongside local MP, Angela Smith, we are now holding a public meeting in Chapeltown, north Sheffield, on Wednesday 2nd October, so that people from the area can come along and learn more about it from the experts. The panel of speakers including woodland, wildlife and political experts also includes local residents who formed their own action group to oppose development at nearby Hesley Wood. We would welcome your support – do come along – or let friends and relatives in the area know so that they can attend." Time: 7pm start Date: Wednesday 2 October Place: Newton Hall, Cowley Road, Chapeltown, S35 1SX (Parking is available)
