HENDRA....... The debate is driving us all mad! I do think some of the responsibility for the ongoing argument lies with the horse owners who have had reactions in their horses and failed to report them to Zoetis. The reason that the pro-vaccine people have a convincing argument is the fact that the reported incidence of reactions as of right now is just 0.2% and no deaths. I believe from what Ive seen that this figure is incorrect. Just amongst the agistees where my own horses are I would say more than 60% have had reactions of swellings, prolonged temperatures and mild colics. In our region I have also seen neurological reactions (partial hind limb paralysis), severe colics and hospitilisations. Please, please, please everyone that has had an issue with this vaccine report the reaction/s your horse had. If you cant be bothered reporting it then there is no point keeping on talking about it. Dont leave it just to the people with really really bad reactions; every reaction no matter how minimal should be reported. It is a simple form to complete; everyone needs to do it. I am not an anti-vaccine person in general. I am fully vaccinated myself and I vaccinate my horses and dogs but I am still too nervous to use the Hendra vaccine in my horses after watching so many reactions in other peoples horses.
