David wrote us a couple letters each year, always with a new photo of Sampson and went on and on about how much he loved Sampson. Davids daughter assured us at the time of adoption that if the worst should happen, she or her sister would step in and have Sampson live with them. David asked for donations in his honor to go to Dogs Deserve Better, thats how much he loved his dog and the work we did to free him from his prison. Eckenrode, David O. 88 Unity Township. David O. Eckenrode, 88, of Unity Township (Pipetown), died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home. He was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Altoona, a son of the late Holden A. and Mable E. (Utz) Eckenrode. David served aboard a destroyer then volunteered for submarine service with the Navy during World War II. Prior to retirement, he worked at Latrobe Steel Co., was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, and member of Unity Township American Legion Post 982. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth A. (Ulishney) Eckenrode; a sister, Joan Muri; and two brothers, William and infant, Robert. He is survived by three children, Diane Elliott and husband, William, of Latrobe, William D.
