HERE IS THE TEXT OF THE SAVE LADDER 5 PETITION: We, the undersigned, would like to bring your attention to the following problem with the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) plan to decommission Ladder 5 at the Arabella Street Fire Station and to reduce the firefighting force in the Uptown area. Therefore, we petition the Mayor’s office, The City Council and the NOFD Administration to find the funds to restore the Arabella station’s manpower to seven firefighters, as well as to maintain both a pump truck and ladder truck at this location. In addition to this commitment, we seek an assurance that the Arabella Street Fire Station will remain open and receive no further reduction of resources. The overriding purpose of this petition is to insure that citizens and visitors in our uniquely historic city will retain an adequate level of life safety protection and property conservation as prescribed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for response time and protection of cultural resources and historic landmarks, in addition to those for events and tourism.
