HERE WE GO AGAIN! Get ready now for bad weather from Margaret River to Lake Grace to Salmon Gums to Israelite Bay Tuesday 24 September 2013 - 2:30 PM If you live south of a line from Margaret River to Lake Grace to Salmon Gums to Israelite Bay you need to get ready now for the bad weather coming tonight. This includes people in Bridgetown, Katanning, Albany, Esperance and surrounding areas. This is typical weather for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous. WHAT TO DO: DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) has these tips to help you and your family get ready now: • Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury • Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit • Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area • Move vehicles under cover • If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property • Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephones if there is lightning • Construction site workers should store loose building material and tie down sheds • Boat owners should securely moor their boats • Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams WEATHER DETAILS: As at 1.54pm on 24 September 2013 the Bureau of Meteorology advises a cold front is expected to be near the southwest Capes around midnight and will move rapidly across southern parts of the South West Land Division overnight to lie near Esperance around sunrise. The weather system is likely to cause widespread damaging winds to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in damage to homes and property. Damaging winds are likely to develop southwest of a line Margaret River to Katanning to Bremer Bay after 10 pm this evening and extend to remaining areas overnight. Conditions will ease west of Albany by sunrise and ease over remaining areas by late Wednesday morning.
