HEY RUTGERS Students, Professors, Staff and Alum...CHRISTIE & NORCROSS are at AGAIN... Dear Maryanne Giello, This message requires your immediate attention. The New Jersey legislature has introduced and fast-tracked legislation that would dissolve the Rutgers Board of Trustees (BOT)–a governing board that has been in existence since 1766. The legislation could be approved by a floor vote in each chamber tomorrow without any discussion and no committee hearings for members of the public to address their opposition or concerns. Governor Christie has indicated he would sign the legislation into law, taking effect immediately. Here’s the legislation, S2902 We join President Barchi, the Board of Governors, the Board of Trustees and the rest of our Rutgers community in opposition to this over-hasty measure. We urge you to contact Senate President Stephen Sweeney (Senate sponsor), Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, and Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (Assembly sponsor) to demand that they refrain from any action on this unnecessary legislation. Contact Senate President Sweeney: [email protected] and call his office: (856) 251-9801 Contact Speaker Oliver: [email protected] and call her office: (973) 395-1166 Contact Assemblyman Prieto: [email protected] and call his office: (201) 770-1303 Thank you for taking immediate action on this matter.
