HEY, you know what today is? Well, yes, its October 22nd, but this is a HUGE day is my life.... Thirty-six years ago today I was asked to sing for a wedding. I sang for a lot of weddings back then. So that day I showed up and did the usual everyone-running-around-before-the-wedding-thing, only I ran right smack dab into a tall, dark, handsome bearded guy wearing a brown three-piece suit. With high-heeled shoes. (I know but it was really stylin back then.) He told me later that I sounded just like Barbra Streisand, which I totally fell for. I want to stop right here and point out that barely 24 hours earlier I had broken up with my boyfriend of two plus years and had sworn off men FOREVER. NEVER going to get married. NEVER going to have kids.... NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. Anyway, later we were sitting at the bar talking away, and as we found more and more things in common I remember thinking that I could marry this guy. Remember the swearing-off-men-forever-part? Yeah, me neither. So at the end of the evening he asked for my phone number which I did NOT give him and told him instead to ask my friend (the best man) for it. I do have some standards, you know. I didnt think anything more of it....well, ok I did but he definitely had to make the first move. Meanwhile, he went home and told his brother that he had met a girl. Rick says, Whats she look like? Is she gorgeous? Nah, shes kind of plain but also kind of cute. KIND OF PLAIN???? Well, he did call and we did begin to date because he took back the kind of plain comment. And in a little over nine months, that tall, dark, and handsome bearded guy and I got married. Isnt it funny what you remember after 36 years? Kind of plain....sheesh.
