HI KIDS Id like to formally invite you all to the lecture by Dr Dyson, of Cambridge University on Monday 15th December at 7:30pm in the Great Hall. Hes both an academic and fellow at Trinity College and is an amazing speaker! For Year 11 and upwards: St Olaves Grammar School, Goddington Lane, Orpington, BR6 9SH Titled Attempting the Impossible and Unintentional the talk will explore trying to commit crime though the lens of the Criminal Attempts Act 1981. It will examine the way English law seeks to balance early intervention in criminal activity with the need for a minimum harm or wrong to be done before someone is brought within the scope of the criminal law.Two key questions will be asked: first, does and should the criminal law prohibit impossible attempts to commit crime and, second, what mental state must a defendant be in to be convicted of an attempt to commit a crime. Do you have the answers? Would you like to try to find them? I think you all would. Id love to see all you there and be thoroughly enriched by this invigorating lecture.
