HI We have had a few messages from a few of our concerned supporters asking if we are ok and the horse we picked up the other day. I will try and explain the best I can. On Thursday Stacey and I went to collect a horse, from Whitianga. We get down to pick him up and he was stunning however much more seriously injuried then we thought. The best to explain it would be it was like he had wobblers syndrome. ( Wobbles is a horse with a damaged spinal cord, Wobbles depending on how bad it is can live a full life and some can also be ridden depending on what you want to do, so hacking fine no jumping) He does not have Wobbles, he has a old muscle injury. .... We loaded him and start our long drive home. I was feeling uneasy with having him on board so was drive slower even than normal when towing. We took him home as we didn’t feel right leaving him either. The people were nice but needed to rehomed him. We stop to give him some Bute to help make his ride alot more comfy. We also rung a old owner who was able to give us details I have give about about his known injury. We again set out to get him home safe. About maybe 2.hrs into the drive home, on a straight road, I felt like what felt like a tyre go on the car which forced the car over the other side of the road. I was able to control the car bringing back over to the correct side and I pulled over straight away. When checking the car it was find that the horses had fallen which was the cause not the car. He had fallen under the middle partition of the float. Lucky for us alot of people stopped after seeing what was going on. One of them owner the local vets. We were able to move the float middle and get the float with the gelding still inside down into the neighbours farm who was also helping us. With now being in a paddock, we opens the float right up and two farmer men pulled the gelding out. He rolled out onto the grass and lay there. He then got up when asked. He shook himself off. He was not badly hurt, small cuts to his legs, chest, eye lids. Nothing serious, two vet were there. He was walked around. The float was checked out and amazingly float is fine also. The middle was tied to one side to give him more room, the farmer gave us a bale of hay to use as bedding. We load the gelding back into the float (yes he went on fine...shockly enough) Stacey and I started our way back to Auckland. With Auckland in our sights were glad to get the gelding back home safely.Which we did. We are very thankful to the people who help us. We have been in touch with them to let them know we all got home safety. We are very happy and lucky that the gelding was not more seriously hurt and we are very happy that we were travelling as slowly as we were when it happened as things would have been alot more serious. I am happy to say that the gelding is happily in a friends paddock in South Auckland, where is he walking around like he doesn’t have a care in the world. At this stage due to the seriousness of his old injury we are unsure what the future holds for him. He is not paddock sound and would take a lot of treatment and on going care to being a paddock mate as he will never be riddable. He is such a lovely gelding very sweet. I am so happy that he is getting such great care at my friends and he can just relax a little. I wil end this by stating the following. It is very easy to judge if you don’t know the people involved, the horse, how the day played out. At the end the day we will do our best for the horse as he is now in our care.
