HIM: I need something to read. Anything. But not fiction. ME: What do you like? What are your interests? HIM: I dont know. Um... give me the book that has checked out the most in the librarys history. Is it here? ME: Sir, Id impress the heck out of myself if I could truthfully walk over to the shelf and pull out THAT book, but I honestly cant. HIM: Okay, how about Salinger? Im sorry. Maybe not. I dont read much. I mean, I know HOW to read, but for years all Ive read are religious texts. ME: Do you like history? HIM: No. Too dry, too serious. Okay. Yeah. I think want something real and true, but not serious. So is it wrong that a man came in asking about Salinger and I sent him home with David Sedaris?
