HISTORY - Sweet Vermouth is an aromatized fortified wine-based liqueur that was originally created in North Italy in the 17th century. In the 19th century, it became a key ingredient in many other classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, the Negroni and the Americano. With the growth in popularity causing the inevitable commercialization and mass production of Vermouth the quality and standards have dramatically decreased from what was originally such a special product. MONELLO house made Sweet Vermouth has a red wine base, some white wine, a touch of brandy to stop the fermentation process and a secret extraction of 27 herbs, botanicals, barks, roots and the like. With a very floral bouquet the flavor begins notably sweet and gently opens to a complex floral, earthy and spiced finish. Monello is the only restaurant, let alone the only public place in the country that makes sweet vermouth in-house. It can be enjoyed only at Monello.
