HISTORY LESSON...HISTORY LESSON: My first skateboard, circa 1960 was made of steel roller skates screwed to a 2x6 piece of pine wood. About late 61 or early 62 got my first store bought skateboard. Did every kinda stunt/trick that was on the board in those days...hurtles, slaloms, curb jumps, etc. I even rode down the bridge (seriously long steep ride) over the Intercoastal Waterway at Surfside Beach outside of Freeport, TX...suffered much road rash in those days! Nearly broke my ankle in Misawa-shi, Aomori, Japan, back in early 78, riding on a newer design (non-skid deck), that I was unfamiliar with and was moving at a high rate of speed and over-corrected on a maneuver. As I get older, the healing process takes longer, so I dont really ride any more but I still long for that Zen connection of soulful carving that us old-school skateboarders love... All that said...seein this young un gettin down and crankin his board, I just get a bit teary-eyed...RIp it little brother!
