HIT THE DELETE BUTTON Some of you are allowing something someone - TopicsExpress

HIT THE DELETE BUTTON Some of you are allowing something someone said to you to prevent you from being all you can be. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel insufficient unless you allow it.” Sometimes we simply have to hit the “delete” button in our brain and remove those negative comments from our memory. Are there any “viruses contaminating your computer?” I am reminded of a story about a 15-year old high school kid who was at a basketball camp run by LSU coach, Dale Brown. During Q/A he told coach Brown that his high school coach said he could not play next year because he was slow and clumsy. He asked the coach what he could do to be faster and more agile. Coach Brown gave him some sound advice, as well as exercises he could do to become faster and quicker. Brown gave a little more attention and worked with this 15-year old the rest of the week. That year this 15-year old not only made the high school team but a few years later ended up playing for LSU under coach Brown. Then Shaquille O’Neal also known as “Shaq” went on to play in the NBA for 19-years. Shaq could have said, “Well if the coach thinks I am not good enough then I must not be,” or “I guess I will never play basketball again.” But Shaq saw himself as a basketball player, listened to sound advice, and put in the extra effort in order to improve. Shaq hit the “delete” button and overcame what his high school coach told him were his weaknesses. He chose not to listen to the negative comment that he would never play in high school. Everything changes when we hit the “delete” button on negativity. What our mind should be telling us is “we are beautiful,” “we are smart,” “we are strong,” and “we are hardworking.” But unless you we learn to use the “delete” button, our minds will tell us, “You aren’t good enough,” or “Come on, there is no way you will graduate,” or “Really, you think you’re pretty or good looking enough to go out with her/him?” There will always be people trying to “contaminate your software.” Naysayers are everywhere. These people don’t lift you up-they try to keep you down. Carl Lewis was told by “experts” that it was impossible for a human to jump 30-feet.” Carl said, “I didn’t dwell on what those so called “experts” said; I continued to practice.” That year, Carl set a world record by jumping over 30-feet in the 1996 Olympics. Yes Carl knew that “experts” built the Titanic. He nor Shaq allowed let the “experts” to talk them out of what was in their hearts. In life, we are not what people call us. We are what we answer to. Never disqualify yourself because of past mistakes, circumstances, education, and self-doubts. What really determines our outcome is effectively hitting the “delete” button.
