HMS Friday Some people consider Friday the 13th to be an unlucky - TopicsExpress

HMS Friday Some people consider Friday the 13th to be an unlucky day. The superstition is so old no one really knows where it came from. The most popular belief is that it is a combination of two even older superstitions: that Fridays in general are simply unlucky days, and that thirteen is an unlucky number. One Friday suspicion is that it is bad luck to begin a trip on Friday. It is said that sailors in the Royal Navy, at one time, were extremely suspicious about ships leaving port on Fridays, in particular Friday the 13th. Legend has it the government decided to do something about it so they built a ship, HMS Friday. Construction was started on a Friday, the ship was launched on a Friday, sailors were selected for her crew on a Friday and Jim Friday was named as her captain. The vessel left port on her maiden voyage on a Friday, sailed out of sight, and was never seen or heard from again.
