HOCKEY: Neither the Brockville Braves or Cumberland Grads were able to score a goal at even strength in their Central Canada Hockey League game in Cumberland on Sunday afternoon, but Brockvilles accumulation of a short-handed goal and a power-play marker served them just fine. Hayden Hultons short-handed goal 5:51 into the third period tied the game 1-1 and Nathan Todd scored on a power play exactly one minute into overtime to give the Braves their fourth consecutive victory, 2-1. It was Todds team-leading ninth goal of the season. Mark Golberg had given the Grads a 1-0 lead 12:04 into the second period, also on a power play. They came close to going ahead 2-0 in the final couple of minutes in the period when Brandon Grillo was awarded a penalty shot, but he was unsuccessful against Braves goaltender David Poirier, who was making just his fifth start of the season and improved his record to 3-1-1 while lowering his goals-against average to 2.71. The 10-7-1 Braves moved into a third-place tie with the Smiths Falls Bears with the win. The pair meet Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Smiths Falls.
